President's Message

Ritual, a prescribed way of doing certain things in the Grange is not very popular these days. Our ritual is full of a rich and strong heritage passed down from those who preceded us. It is not dogma, for if you travel to other State Grange jurisdictions, you will see many variations in the procedures using the very same manual we all use. So, I conclude that our ritual is very much a heritage as it is also a way to do things as set down in the manual.
Br. Truman Cahill’s passing last month left me thinking of all I learned while serving as one of his Marshalls on his installation suite. We were all dressed in black suits, white shirts, and black bow ties with polished black shoes. Br. Norman Briggs and I would alternate officers and march briskly to the altar for the presentation and installation. How I miss those late nights and grand company.
Though I miss those simple days, I am happy when a Grange is functioning well. If a Grange uses the ritual, all the better. As a reminder, I have approved the use of the alternate opening as presented by the National Grange for use in Massachusetts .
I wish for everyone a happy and fun summer. Use the time wisely to enjoy family, too get much needed rest, and to plan wisely for the coming Grange year. Plan interesting, informative and fun programs. Plan your events to be special and invite the public into your meetings. Plan to get involved with your community in at least one project and carry through with your plans. Be the place where people want to get involved. You CAN do it!
The National Grange Building rededication took place June 26, the same day as the Cathedral of the Pines service. Linda was asked to be a guide for the tours as National Ceres. We hope you had a wonderful day of worship and celebration.
As a reminder, DCF takes no vacations. The need over the summer does not decrease. Please continue to do your dedicated service in support of DCF and Foster children.
